SC Extends Protection To A Woman Lawyer In Manipur FIR Until July 17

The Supreme Court on Friday extended the protection from arrest for a woman lawyer until July 17 in connection with an FIR filed by Manipur police.

The FIR was related to alleged statements made by members of a fact-finding mission, including the lawyer, regarding Manipur state.

The court allowed the respondents to present their submissions by extending the interim order until the next listing date. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on July 17.

The FIR was lodged against members of the fact-finding committee, including Annie Raja, a CPI leader.

The court directed the petitioner to provide a copy of the petition to the counsel assisting the solicitor general, who is representing the Manipur government.

The court ordered that no coercive steps be taken against the petitioner until 5 pm on July 14, 2023, based on the FIR registered on July 8, 2023.
