The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Criminal Investigation Department has filed a charge sheet against former MP Prajwal Revanna for rape and his father, MLA H D Revanna, for sexual harassment.
The SIT, which is investigating four cases against Prajwal, has stated that the over 2,000-page charge sheet includes statements from approximately 150 witnesses.
The charge sheet, submitted to a special court for public representatives, relates to one of the cases involving an alleged sexual assault on the family’s domestic help. It includes spot inspection reports, biological, physical, scientific, mobile, digital, and other relevant evidence gathered during the investigation. The SIT also sought expert opinions before finalizing the charge sheet.
MLA Revanna, who is the son of former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda, has been charged under sections 354 and 354(A) of the IPC. His 33-year-old son Prajwal faces charges under sections 376, 376(2)(K), 354, 354(A), and 354(B) of the IPC. The first complaint against the father-son duo was lodged by the domestic help at their residence. The victim, who is also a relative of the MLA’s wife Bhavani, claimed she was sexually harassed multiple times.
Prajwal had recently contested the Lok Sabha election as an NDA candidate from Hassan but was defeated. Ahead of the second phase of the Lok Sabha election on April 26, explicit videos allegedly showing Prajwal sexually assaulting multiple women surfaced on social media. In response, Karnataka State Commission for Women Chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary requested an inquiry, leading the Congress government to order an investigation.
