Suicide Case: SIT Arrests Deputy Superintendent of Police

Suicide Case

The Special Investigation Team on Tuesday arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police Kanakalakshmi in connection with the suicide of a 33-year-old woman lawyer, official sources confirmed.

Allegations Of Misconduct & Bribery

The senior police officer was booked after the deceased lawyer, Jeeva S, accused Kanakalakshmi of misconduct during an interrogation related to the Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation scam. In her suicide note, Jeeva alleged that the DySP stripped her while questioning her and demanded a Rs.25 lakh bribe.

FIR & Investigation

A case was registered at the Banashankari police station based on Jeeva’s suicide note, dated November 22, 2024. Following the FIR, Commissioner of Police B. Dayananda ordered the Central Crime Branch (CCB) to conduct an inquiry into the allegations against Kanakalakshmi.

Family’s Accusations

Jeeva’s sister, Sangeetha S, further accused Kanakalakshmi of torturing her sister under the pretext of checking whether she was carrying cyanide. Sangeetha claimed that the interrogation was a deliberate act of humiliation and coercion to extort the bribe.

The arrest of the DySP marks a significant development in the case, and the SIT is expected to continue its probe to determine the extent of police misconduct and possible corruption in the matter.
