Tantrik Treating Girls in UP: NHRC Issues Notice to Chief Secretary of The State

Tantrik treating girls

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary over reports that a tantrik was called to treat 15 girls who became ill after eating a mid-day meal at a government school in Mahoba. The commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the reports and is investigating the incident.

The commission took Suo motu cognizance of media reports that the authorities of a state-run school in the Mahoba district called a Tantrik to treat the 15 girl students. According to an official news release, they were brought to the hospital following police action.

The Commission noted that the facts of the media stories, if accurate, amount to human rights violations of the students, who’ve been allegedly taken to superstitious acts at a government-run school rather than being sent to a hospital for treatment by school authorities.

The NHRC issued a notice to the chief secretary, seeking a detailed report on the issue within four weeks.
