Phone-Tapping Case
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that it has extended political protection to Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders K. Chandrasekhar Rao and K.T. Rama Rao in connection with the ongoing phone-tapping investigation.
He specifically questioned the BJP-led Union government’s failure to act upon Telangana’s formal request for a Red Corner Notice against key accused individuals, Prabhakar Rao and Sravan Kumar, who have reportedly absconded to the United States.
Addressing a public gathering in Nizamabad as part of the Congress Party’s campaign for the Legislative Council election from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency, the Chief Minister asserted that the BJP had deliberately weaponized the phone-tapping case to compel BRS leaders to withdraw from the MLC elections under the implicit threat of legal action.
Furthermore, CM Revanth Reddy raised concerns regarding the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) selective approach to investigations, questioning why K.T. Rama Rao had not been arrested in relation to alleged financial irregularities surrounding the Formula-E race.
He asserted that crucial documents pertaining to both the Formula-E race and a purported scandal involving sheep procurement had been seized by the ED, insinuating a clandestine arrangement between the BJP and BRS.
Expounding on this alleged political collusion, he highlighted BRS’s strategic decision to abstain from the MLC elections while concurrently urging voters to defeat Congress candidates.
He further contended that this covert agreement facilitated the BJP’s acquisition of eight Lok Sabha seats in Telangana while BRS candidates suffered electoral losses in an equivalent number of constituencies. He challenged the BJP to substantiate its contributions to Telangana’s development following its parliamentary victories.
Revanth Reddy also criticized the BJP’s failure to secure Maharashtra’s approval for the Pranahita Chevella irrigation project, which he argued would have significantly enhanced agricultural prosperity in Adilabad district.
He questioned why the BJP had not leveraged its political influence in Maharashtra to expedite the project’s clearance.
Additionally, the Chief Minister accused former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao of orchestrating subversive political maneuvers against the incumbent Congress administration from his farmhouse. “The people of Telangana have unequivocally rejected BRS and relegated KCR to political insignificance, yet he persists in engaging in conspiratorial politics,” he stated.
He further criticized the BRS for what he characterized as a decade of ineffectual governance, juxtaposing it against the Congress government’s achievements within a mere ten-month tenure.
Underscoring his administration’s commitment to addressing unemployment, Revanth Reddy highlighted that 55,163 government jobs had been filled within a short period.
He also emphasized key policy initiatives, including the waiver of Rs. 21,000 crore in farm loans, which has benefited approximately 25 lakh farmers, and the implementation of the Rythu Bharosa scheme, which provides Rs. 12,000 per acre annually to agricultural producers.
Furthermore, he contended that the fiscal mismanagement under the previous BRS-led administration had necessitated extensive financial commitments by the Congress government, which now allocates Rs. 6,500 crore per month, amounting to Rs. 75,000 crore annually, for debt servicing. “Our administration has been compelled to borrow Rs. 65,000 crore merely to offset the financial liabilities incurred by the KCR government,” he asserted.
In his address, CM Revanth Reddy sought to position the Congress as the principal architect of Telangana’s progress, pledging to rectify the economic mismanagement and governance deficiencies attributed to the preceding administration.
