Actor Allu Arjun’s lawyer, Ashok Reddy, criticized the delay in his client’s release despite the Telangana High Court granting interim bail on December 13. “They received the order copy from the High Court, but they didn’t release the accused immediately. This is an illegal detention, and they will have to answer for it. As of now, he has been released,” Reddy stated.
The actor was arrested in connection with a tragic incident during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4. The event turned fatal when a woman, Revathi, lost her life, and her son sustained injuries in a stampede-like situation.
The chaos began when Allu Arjun arrived at the venue, drawing an enormous crowd of fans eager to see him. Reportedly, the situation escalated when the actor waved to fans from the sunroof of his vehicle, causing the crowd to surge forward. Police alleged that the combination of Arjun’s actions and his security team’s attempts to clear a path for the vehicle contributed to the accident.
Authorities also accused the actor’s team of ignoring warnings about the crowd size and potential risks. “His team was intimated to take him back, citing the large public gathering, but they didn’t act on it. Allu Arjun stayed inside the theatre for over two hours while the situation outside deteriorated. Adequate police arrangements were in place, but his actions led to this unfortunate incident,” officials stated.
Allu Arjun, who was detained in Chanchalguda Central Jail, was released on a personal bond of ₹50,000. Upon his release, he addressed the media, expressing gratitude to his fans and reiterating his condolences to the victim’s family. “I thank everyone for their love and support. I am fine and will fully cooperate with the investigation. My deepest condolences go out to the bereaved family. It was an unfortunate accident,” he said.
The actor emphasized that similar incidents had never occurred during his public appearances and assured that he had extended support to Revathi’s family. “I am a law-abiding citizen. There’s nothing to worry about. All is well. My thoughts remain with the family during this difficult time,” he added.
Writer Chinni Krishna defended Allu Arjun, calling the case against him “fabricated.” He claimed, “This is a case fabricated by the government and police.”
The tragic event has sparked widespread debate about crowd management at public events and the responsibilities of celebrities during such situations. Several public figures, including Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K.T. Rama Rao, and actors Rashmika Mandanna and Varun Dhawan, have expressed their support for Allu Arjun.
Before his arrest, Arjun revealed he was deeply shaken by the incident. “The incident at Sandhya Theatre is very unfortunate. It took me hours to process and respond. I was in psychological shock and needed time to understand what had happened,” he shared during a success meet for Pushpa 2.
The tragedy has highlighted the need for stricter protocols to manage large gatherings, especially during high-profile celebrity appearances.
