Rapists in Jail

Two men have been recently sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for gang-raping a pregnant woman in Bapatla district in 2022.

The individuals, namely P Vijaya Krishna and P Nikhil, residents of Repalle town, handed the incarceration period subsequent to a ruling by the Guntur Additional District and Sessions Court.

Bapatla Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, who also oversaw the probe into the case stated, “The accused were convicted within a period of one year and were handed a 20-year jail term. This case was personally monitored by the DGP.”

As per the police, the victim, accompanied by her spouse and children, hailing from the Yerragondapalem mandal in the Prakasam district, reached the Repalle Railway station at approximately 11.30 pm on April 30, 2022 en route to the Nagayalanka village within the Krishna district, to work as a labourer.

Owing to the late hour, the family members sought reprieve on the station platform, where they subsequently fell asleep. In the early hours of the 1st of May, 2022, Krishna and Nikhil awakened the sleeping family, fought with the victim’s husband, and grabbed some cash from him.

Furthermore, they dragged the woman to the platform side where they took turns and raped her.

Meanwhile, the victim’s spouse managed to extricate himself from the scene and subsequently ran to the Repalle police station, wherein he lodged a formal complaint detailing the incident.

However, Jindal stated, within a few hours, police managed to catch them and got them convicted within a year to ensure maximum punishment through the judicial process.

Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal underscored the pivotal role played by Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendranath Reddy, who diligently introduced the Court Trial Monitoring System on a statewide basis.

This mechanism, dedicated to preventing the evasion of justice in cases related to women, POCSO, and other serious offenses, stands poised to substantiate such allegations through the presentation of such crimes and scientific evidence.
