Six accused have been arrested on Wednesday for robbing a businessman of Rs 23 lakh at gunpoint in the Ghaziabad district’s Vijaynagar area over a week ago.
According to Ghaziabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nipun Agarwal, the robbery occurred on August 21st when the businessman was traveling from Gazipur market in Delhi to Dasna in Ghaziabad.
The DCP mentioned that one of the accused in the robbery was aware that there is often cash transactions in the Gazipur market in Delhi. Hence, the accused along with five others devised a plan to quickly earn money.
“On August 21st, the accused spotted the businessman while he was on his way from Gazipur market in Delhi to Ghaziabad. Therefore, the accused, along with their bikes and a car, began to tail him,” the DCP said. “The occupants of the car took a picture of the businessman’s scooter, which was seen in Gazipur market, and sent it to bikers who were waiting ahead,” he added.
Subsequently, the bikers then began to chase the businessman’s scooter. As soon as the businessman reached the Vijaynagar Police Station area, six accused pointed a gun at him and robbed his scooter.
Following this, the accused looted the money from the businessman’s scooter and fled the scene after leaving the scooter at a distance. The Ghaziabad Crime Branch team arrested 6 accused and recovered ₹20.5 lakhs. The police also seized an illegal pistol and a scooter. The police stated that all six accused have a criminal history and have been involved in several robbery cases. All six accused reside in Meerut and Noida. However, two accused are still at large, and a team has been formed to apprehend them.
