An Uttarakhand-based YouTuber was detained by the police and compelled to issue a public apology after a video of him distributing beer in a restricted area surfaced on social media.

Ankur Chaudhary, a resident of the Sidcul area, was taken into custody, fined, and required to publicly apologize for his actions, as per police sources. On Wednesday, a video had circulated on social media showing Chaudhary distributing beer for free in the Kankhal area to boost followers on his Instagram channel.

It is to be noted that consumption of meat and alcohol is prohibited in the Kankhal area of Haridwar.

The video, titled ‘Beer Challenge,’ sparked outrage among residents of the holy town, prompting pilgrimage priests to demand stringent action against the YouTuber.

Taking prompt action, the police detained Chaudhary, who subsequently apologized to the public for openly distributing beer for free in the area, ensuring that such a mistake would not recur. Chaudhary, who holds a law degree, was also fined under the Police Act.
