In a significant development in the Varanasi gangrape case that has sparked public outrage across Uttar Pradesh, the state police have taken swift and decisive action against the accused.
The case, involving the alleged gangrape of a minor girl, has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed calls for justice and safety for women.
According to senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh Police, all the main accused have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody. The arrests were made within 48 hours of the incident being reported, showcasing a prompt response by the Varanasi Police and Special Task Force (STF) teams.
Zero Tolerance For Such Crimes
Speaking to the media, Varanasi Police Commissioner Prakash Singh said, “We are treating this case with the utmost seriousness. There will be zero tolerance for such heinous crimes. The investigation is being conducted under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections of the IPC.”
A dedicated team of officers, including forensic experts, has been formed to ensure a watertight investigation. The police have already collected CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and other digital evidence linked to the suspects.
Court Proceedings Initiated
Officials also confirmed that the state government has recommended the case be tried in a fast-track court to ensure swift justice. Legal aid and psychological counseling have been arranged for the survivor and her family.
Political & Public Response
The incident has sparked protests across Varanasi and other parts of the state, with civil society groups and student organizations demanding stricter enforcement of laws and better safety measures for women. Several political leaders have also called for exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has personally reviewed the case and directed police officials to ensure there is no lapse in the investigation. “The safety of women and children remains our top priority. The guilty will not be spared,” he stated in a press release.
The case continues to develop, and the police have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information on social media while the investigation is ongoing.
