Village Head and Seven Others Charged for Alleged Voter Influence in UP

In Haibatpur village (Uttar Pradesh), a village head along with seven others faces charges for allegedly attempting to sway voters by distributing sarees, as per police reports on Tuesday.

The situation unfolded when a video capturing the purported distribution surfaced on social media platforms.

The footage depicted sarees being handed out to numerous women gathered in the courtyard of a residence in Haibatpur village on the night of May 18, stated Deputy Superintendent of Police Gaurav Kumar.

On Tuesday, an FIR was filed under IPC sections 188 (pertaining to violating prohibitory orders) and 171 B (concerning giving gratification to influence the exercise of any electoral right).

The accused include village head Narendra Rai, Rakesh Rai, Birbal Ram, and Bhalu Rai, along with four unnamed individuals at Ballia Police Station, confirmed the officer.
