Saayoni Ghosh, the President of Trinamool Youth Congress and a Bengali actress, has once again been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 5 regarding her involvement in the teachers’ recruitment scam in West Bengal. This comes after she was previously summoned by the agency on Friday. Following an 11-hour-long interrogation, Saayoni stated that she had cooperated with the ED officials and submitted some necessary documents. She mentioned that she believes the ED officers are satisfied with her cooperation and expressed her willingness to return if asked to do so.
In a separate incident, the Enforcement Directorate had earlier summoned Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, to appear before them on June 13 in relation to the alleged teacher recruitment scam. In May, Banerjee was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for over 9 hours regarding the multi-crore recruitment scam in West Bengal schools.
Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Friday, accusing them of using central agencies to harass the opposition. Sinha claimed that this was a desperate attempt for revenge by the BJP before they lose power. He expressed his disapproval of the actions taken by certain individuals and agencies, stating that they are not acting in a fair manner and are attempting to harass many people, particularly those from the opposition. Sinha likened the situation to a flickering lamp before its final extinguishment, implying that the BJP’s condition is similar.
