West Tripura DM Launches Weekend Campaign to Resolve Backlog of Cases

In an active effort to decrease the number of unresolved land-related legal disputes, the District Magistrate’s office of West Tripura launched a special campaign to handle these cases on weekends and holidays.

This initiative aims to accommodate individuals unable to attend court during regular working hours due to employment or other commitments. Land-related legal battles have long burdened the lives of ordinary citizens in the region. From 2012 to 2014, a significant number of revenue cases have remained unresolved in the District Magistrate’s (DM) Court, specifically under Section 95-11-3. An estimated 3,000 cases are still pending, although this figure was as high as 4,400 just six months ago.

The initiative has garnered widespread praise from the public, who appreciate the administration’s efforts to streamline the legal process. The DM’s office aims to increase the rate of case disposals in the coming weeks by continuing to hold court sessions on weekends and holidays.

Addressing the issue, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, Vishaal Kumar, remarked, “Our office recognized the urgency to expedite the resolution of these pending cases. By utilizing weekends and holidays, we aimed to provide more accessible opportunities for people to participate in their land record cases.”

“Just last week, we managed to dispose of approximately 80 cases,” noted the District Magistrate.

The District Magistrate also called on the public to engage more actively in these land record cases, stating, “We urge common citizens to participate more in the process. The administration is committed to providing whatever relief and support we can offer.”

As efforts to clear the backlog continue, the DM’s office remains optimistic about significantly reducing the number of pending revenue cases and delivering timely resolutions to land-related disputes.

“The impact of land-related cases on the lives of ordinary people is profound. Many revenue cases have remained pending in the DM Court from 2012 to 2014, dealt with under Section 95-11-3, and an estimated three thousand cases are still pending. Six months ago, the backlog was approximately 4,400 cases,” stated the DM.

“We initiated efforts to reduce this backlog by resolving these cases on weekends and holidays, accommodating individuals unable to attend on regular days due to various commitments,” he added.

“We disposed of around 80 such cases just last week. The positive feedback from the public has been encouraging, and we anticipate increasing our disposal rate further in the coming days. We will continue to prioritize these revenue cases on weekends and holidays. Through your platform, I urge common citizens to actively participate in land record cases, and we, as the administration, will endeavor to provide all possible support and relief,” he concluded.
