Wrestlers Protest: Delhi Police Files Status Report Of Probe Into Allegations Against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan

Delhi Police has recently filed a status report before the Rouse Avenue Court, stating that the statements of victims in all FIRs have been recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC.

Following that, the court has taken up the plea by women wrestlers, seeking the court to monitor Delhi Police-led probe into sexual assault allegations against President of the Wrestling Federation of India Brij Bhushan Singh.

Singh was reeled under controversy over sexual assault allegations, including that of a minor wrestler. He said that he was ready to face an investigation, and had full faith in the judiciary. Previously, he also alleged that these protests were politically generated and that his resignation and arrest aren’t the only two main objectives of those wrestlers.

Several ace wrestlers, including Olympians, demanded that Singh should step down as WFI chief must be arrested.

The Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Bajrang Punia, one of the protesters has also stated that “This is not a protest of a few husband-wives, but it belongs to thousands of wrestlers of this country. Brij Bhushan Singh will himself see how many wrestlers from around the country will join us today in the candle march.”

BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh from Uttar Pradesh’a Kaiserganj, denied charges of sexual harassment levelled against him by some woman wrestlers. “I am ready for a narco test, polygraph test, or lie detector test if the same test of Phogat and Punia is also conducted.”

Following Brij Bhushan Singh’s condition for the narco test, the athletes too agreed for the test and said that they would adhere to the court’s orders.

Bajrang Punia said that Indian law doesn’t allow female complainants to give a narco test, but when the Supreme Court asks them to undergo the test, they will.

Now, the matter has been listed for a hearing on June 27.
