Wrestler Harrasment case: Minor does not oppose Delhi Police closure report

A minor wrestler, who had accused outgoing WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, on Tuesday expressed satisfaction with the Delhi Police’s investigation and did not oppose the ‘closure report’ submitted.

The girl and her father appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Chhavi Kapoor for an ‘in-chamber proceeding,’ as stated by the public prosecutor, Atul Srivastava.

Following the recording of their statements, the court reserved its order for September 6 to decide on accepting the police report seeking the cancellation of the case, as mentioned by the prosecutor.

On July 4, the court sought responses from the girl and her complainant father on the final report filed by Delhi Police, requesting the cancellation of the case.

The Delhi Police filed the report on June 15, seeking the cancellation of the case involving the minor wrestler. Her father made a startling claim midway through the probe, stating that he had filed a false complaint of sexual harassment against Singh to seek retribution for perceived injustice to the girl.

On the same day, the police recommended dropping the POCSO case against Singh but charged him with sexual harassment and stalking in a separate case filed against him by 6 women wrestlers.

Further, the police cited “no corroborative evidence” in recommending the cancellation of the complaint involving the minor wrestler.

Under the POCSO Act, the crime carries a minimum imprisonment of 3 years, depending on the sections under which it has been registered.

Despite the closure report, the court will decide whether to accept it or initiate further investigation.
