Wrestler’s Sexual Harassment: Delhi Police Drops Coach Jagbeer As Prosecution Witness

Wrestler's Sexual Harassment

The Delhi police on Saturday has dropped coach Jagbeer Singh as a witness in the sexual harassment case involving women wrestlers.

Previously, cited as a prosecution witness, he has now been removed from the case, allowing the court to focus on the testimony of another victim wrestler.

During the proceedings, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Priyanka Rajpoot noted the statement from Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Atul Srivastava, who indicated that Jagbeer Singh’s testimony was redundant, as it echoed the accounts of other witnesses who had already testified about the alleged incident in Lucknow.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on November 4.

Meanwhile, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, one of the accused, has submitted an application requesting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to obtain a passport.

In the previous hearing, the cross-examination of referee Narender was completed. Both Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar are facing trial in this matter.

During the cross-examination, defense counsel Rajiv Mohan questioned Narender about his presence during a photo session in Lucknow in March 2022, where both Brij Bhushan and the victim wrestlers were present.

Mohan probed into how long Narender remained at the scene after the incident, which victims stayed there, and whether he had contacted any of the victims after the March 25 photo session before his statement was recorded by the police.

Additionally, Narender was asked if he had participated in the women wrestlers’ dharna at Jantar Mantar in January 2023. He denied attending, stating that as a government servant, he could not participate.

However, the defense counsel challenged him by presenting a Facebook post that showed him with the wrestlers, questioning whether he had posted the photograph. Narender clarified that the photo was from an Akhada meeting and that he had only shared it, not posted it himself.

As the case unfolds, attention remains on the upcoming hearings and the testimonies that will shape this significant legal battle.
