A special MP-MLA court is set to acknowledge the supplementary charge sheet filed against Congress Leader Jagdish Tytler in connection with the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots.
The CBI lodged the charge sheet on May 20 at Rouse Avenue Court. This case pertains to the murder of 3 individuals in the Pul Bangash area on November 1, 1984.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahima Rai Singh has acknowledged the supplementary charge and prosecution sanction.
Subsequently, the matter has been transferred by the CMM to the court of ACMM Vidhi Anand Gupta, as it involves a former Member of Parliament.
On May 20, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to the anti-Sikh riots of 1984, which occurred following the assassination of the then Prime Minister of India on October 31, 1984.
Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, then Member of Parliament has been named as accused in the chargesheet.
In a statement, the CBI noted that it registered the case in November 2005, concerning an incident in which a mob set fire to the Gurudwara Pul Bangash at Azad Market, Bara Hindu Rao, Delhi. The 3 individuals, namely Sardar Thakur Singh, Badal Singh, and Gurcharan Singh, were burned to death near Gurudwara Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984.
Therefore, Justice Nanavati Commission of Inquiry was established in 2000 by the Government of India to investigate the anti-Sikh riots that occurred in Delhi in 1984.
Based on the Commission’s report, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Government of India) instructed the CBI for investigating the case against the then Member of Parliament and others involved.
During the CBI’s investigation, evidence emerged that on November 1, 1984, the aforementioned accused allegedly incited, provoked, and instigated the mob gathered at Gurudwara Pul Bangash in Azad Market, Delhi.
This resulted in the burning of the Gurudwara Pul Bangash, the killing of 3 Sikh individuals by the mob, and the looting and burning of shops.
The court will hear the case on June 8.
