Jagdish Tytler, a member of Congress, has been charged with murder by the CBI in connection with the 1984 riots case on Saturday.
The federal investigative agency alleges that the Congress leader incited a mob to kill Sikhs near Gurudwara Pul Bangash in Delhi.
CBI stated, “Tytler provoked the mob to kill the Sikhs which resulted in Gurudwara Pul Bangash being set on fire by the mob and killing of three persons belonging to Sikh community on 1.11.1984.”
Additionally, the report stated that he incited the mob, which burnt Gurudwara Pul Bangash and killed Thakur Singh and Badal Singh.
As per the report, the CBI’s charge sheet cites a witness who claims to have seen the Congress leader exiting his car and instigating the mob.
This report coincided with a Delhi court’s acceptance of a bail bond submitted by Congress leader Jagdish Tytler on the same day.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidhi Gupta Anand, who summoned Tytler on July 26 in connection with the case, acknowledged that Tytler had already been granted anticipatory bail by a sessions court.
Further, the court directed the CBI to provide a copy of the charge sheet to Tytler.
The magistrate stated, “Bail bond furnished. Accepted, subject to conditions imposed on bail order.”
Tytler’s wife, Jennifer Tytler, stood security for him in the case.
The court confirmed her identity and financial status, deeming her financially independent and accepting her as a surety.
Previously, the sessions court granted Tytler relief on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of equivalent value, along with certain conditions including refraining from tampering with evidence or leaving the country without permission.
The magisterial court summoned Tytler on August 5, after taking cognizance of the charge sheet.
The case pertains to the events of November 1, 1984, when three individuals were killed and a gurdwara was set ablaze in the Pul Bangash area of Delhi, a day after the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
The judge will now hear the matter on August 11.
