2001 Street Protest Case: AAP Leader Sanjay Singh Surrenders In UP Court, Gets Bail

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh surrendered to a special court on Wednesday in connection with a 2001 street protest case and was granted bail.

“Sanjay Singh surrendered in the MP-MLA court, which granted him bail on a surety bond of ₹50,000,” said his lawyer, Madan Singh. The bail was granted following directions from the Allahabad High Court, which had stayed the execution of the sentence given by the Sultanpur court on August 22.

Last January, the special court had sentenced Singh to 3 months of rigorous imprisonment and fined him for obstructing traffic and inciting violence during a protest in Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh.
