The Supreme Court on Tuesday denied the Karnataka government request to retain the public prosecutor in the case of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abdul Nasser Madani, in the 2008 Bengaluru(Bangalore) serial blasts.
Additional Advocate General Nikhil Goel sought request from a division bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice Bela M Trivedi to retain the public prosecutor in light of the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Karnataka.
Advocate Goel stated that if the Karnataka government changes, so will the prosecutor in the case, potentially delaying the trial.
The bench, however, refused to grant the request, stating that it was up to the prosecutor to take the stand.
Abdul Nasser Madani has been on bail in the case for the past eight years. He called off his trip to Kerala to see his ailing father after the Supreme Court denied his request for a reduction in the high cost of security demanded by the Karnataka Police for his trip to Kerala to see his ailing father.
The Karnataka Police had requested Rs 52 lakh in security for Madani.
