2018 Defamation Case: Sultanpur Court Summons Rahul Gandhi over Comments on Amit Shah

Sultanpur MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh has summoned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a 2018 defamation case regarding alleged “objectionable” comments against Union minister Amit Shah, as stated by the petitioner’s counsel.

The MP/MLA court judge Yogesh Yadav summoned Gandhi on December 16, according to advocate Santosh Pandey.

The defamation case, filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018, pertains to Gandhi’s purportedly “objectionable” comments against Shah during a press conference in Bengaluru.

The complainant highlighted Gandhi’s statement about the BJP, claiming to uphold honest politics, having a party president who is an “accused” in a murder case—referring to Shah’s tenure as BJP president. Notably, approximately four years prior to Gandhi’s remark, a special CBI court in Mumbai had acquitted Shah in a 2005 fake encounter case when Shah served as the minister of state for home in Gujarat.
