Born on December 5, 1955 at Bellary in Karnataka, Justice Manjula Chellur is the daughter of Shri C. Bheemappa Chetty and Smt. Rangamma Chetty. After acquiring a degree in Arts from Allum SumangalammaWomens College in her hometown, Justice Manjula Chellur obtained Law degree from Renukacharya Law College in Bangalore (now Bengaluru) in 1977. Started practice in August 1978 in Bellary being the first woman advocate of Bellary. Elevated as Judge of the Karnataka High Court in February 2000 (the first woman judge of this Court), and as Permanent Judge of the same Court in August 2000. Was elevated as Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on 9 November 2011 on transfer from the Karnataka High Court. Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court from 06 August 2014 to 21 August 2016, became the 37th and first ever woman Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. Chief Justice of Bombay High Court from 22 August 2016 to 04 December 2017. On 13 August 2018 assumed the office of Chairperson of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Indira Banerjee, Former Judge Of Supreme Court
Justice Indira Banerjee was the 8th woman to be a judge in the Supreme Court. Banerjee J graduated from Presidency College and received her LL.B from College of Law, Calcutta University. In February 2002, she was appointed as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court. She was transferred to the Delhi High Court in August 2016 before being appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in April 2017. Banerjee J was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court on August 7th 2018.
S. Abdul Nazeer, sitting Judge of the Supreme Court of India
Justice Nazeer is the third judge to be directly elevated to the Supreme Court without serving as the Chief Justice of a High Court.
Nazeer J studied law in Sri DharmasthalaManjunatheshwara Law College, Mangalore. He litigated for 20 years in the Karnataka High Court.
In 2003, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court. A year later, he became a Permanent Judge in September 24th 2004. He assumed the office on 17th Feb, 2017 and retires on 4th Jan, 2023.
