The Four Special Benches to be constituted in next week to reduce pendencies. Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud said that four special benches will sit in Supreme Court from next week.
As per information coming from supreme Court, these benches will dispose the matter relating to Criminal appeals, Land acquisition matters Motor Accident Claims Tribunal cases and Direct and Indirect Tax matters.

CJI Chandrachud also revealed that Justice Surya Kant will be heading the bench dealing with land acquisition matters.

The detailed composition of the benches are not known yet.

With respect to Direct and Indirect taxes, the CJI had already said on Tuesday that there will be a special bench.

“There will be a special bench from next week onwards on Wednesdays and Thursdays to deal with direct and indirect sales tax matters solely,” he had stated.

Last year in October, Justice Chandrachud had commended V Lakshmikumaran, founding partner of tax law firm Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, when the latter suggested that the constitution of a tax bench will go a long way in easing the pendency of tax cases before the top court.
