400 Afghan Refugees were getting Abused by Pak Police, Karachi Court Issues Release Orders

The Afghanistan consulate in Karachi stated that 405 Afghan nationals will be released after complaints of abuse by Pakistani police from Afghan refugees in that country. There were 194 women, 712 men, and 257 children among the Afghan refugees.

According to consul Abdul Jabar Takhari, the order will take effect in the coming days. “We once released 428 people, and they returned to the country. Now, the court has ordered the release of 405 other people. Their paperwork is under process, and they will also go back to Afghanistan,” he said, as media reported on Wednesday. “There are 257 children, 712 men, and 194 women,” he added.

The Afghans living in Pakistan without documents are being ill-treated in the country. “They must sit with Pakistan Authorities and speak about their problems and fix a time in which they can return to Afghanistan. or they should be registered and provided with cards because the Afghans are facing many problems,” said Nazar Khogianiwal, a refugee rights activist. “Afghans who are living in Pakistan without documents, are facing many problems. We call on the Afghanistan government to share the issue with Pakistan and the UNHCR,” said Awal Khan, a refugee rights activist.

According to a recent article in a magazine, at least 1,200 Afghan migrants—including women and children—who reached the southern port city of Karachi without the required documentation have been detained by Pakistani authorities.

After pictures of imprisoned Afghan youth appeared online, the arrests sparked criticism from Afghanistan and UN organisations. The Washington-based magazine claimed, quoting authorities, that the detentions highlighted the tense relations between the two South Asian neighbours.

According to a report by Press, the Afghan refugees’ plight has been made more difficult by the unjustified detention of Afghan refugees in Pakistan amid deteriorating security conditions there and rising hostilities between the Taliban regime and Islamabad over the border dispute.
