A Bengaluru special court for elected representatives on Tuesday adjourned hearing on the bail plea of JD(S) MLA H D Revanna, currently under the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The Arrests

The former Minister, arrested by the SIT on Saturday in connection with an alleged abduction case involving a woman, has been remanded to police custody until May 8.

The court had previously denied his anticipatory bail plea.

Revanna, the son of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, along with his associate Sathish Babanna, was implicated on Thursday night for allegedly abducting a woman on April 29.

The complaint, filed by the woman’s son, accuses Revanna’s son and JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna of sexually abusing his mother.

Babanna is also under the custody of the SIT.

Reason

Police sources suggest that the woman was abducted to prevent her from testifying against Prajwal.

The circulation of explicit videos purportedly depicting Prajwal’s alleged sexual misconduct on social media prompted the state government to establish the SIT on April 28, following a letter from the Karnataka State Commission for Women addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Prajwal, aged 33 and formerly the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, reportedly left the country on April 27, a day after the elections, and ignored SIT summons. Interpol has issued a Blue Corner notice against the MP, who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
