Activist files petition before Bombay High Court seeking deferment of IIT JEE Mains examination

Bombay HC

Activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai on Monday has filed a petition before the Bombay High Court seeking deferment of the IIT JEE Mains examination scheduled to be held in January 2023 to April 2023.
Additionally the plea has sought for a relaxation of the higher secondary exam score requirement of 75%, which is a prerequisite for taking the IIT exam.
A notification that was issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in this regard on December 15 has been challenged in the plea, which is a public interest litigation (PIL) petition.
According to the notice, the JEE Mains will be held between January 24 and January 31, 2023.
The PIL argued that this schedule announcement was made on an extremely short notice and conflicted with board exams for students in the 12th grade, pre-board exams, viva-voce for CBSE, ICSE, and several other State board exams.
“Most of the State boards have scheduled their Pre-board and board examinations in the month of January 2023. Therefore, students will find it difficult to appear in the Mains examination. Therefore the Mains examination planned in January 2023 is non-benficial to them because they won’t appear for the exam,” the PIL stated.
The PIL underlined that the 75% eligibility requirement was not applicable until last year.
It was stated that thousands of students may be impacted by this sudden change in eligibility.
