Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, accompanied by his family, appeared at the Nampally special court in Hyderabad on Tuesday to file a 100 crore defamation lawsuit against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha.
The case stems from controversial comments Surekha made regarding the divorce between Nagarjuna’s son, Naga Chaitanya, and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
The defamation complaint was filed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in the Hyderabad district court. On October 3, Naga Chaitanya shared a copy of the complaint on social media without any accompanying caption.
In his complaint, Nagarjuna asserts that Surekha, utilizing her platform as a public figure, made defamatory remarks during a media interaction on October 2 while attending a Gandhi Jayanti program. He contends that these statements not only targeted him but also disrespected his family.
The complaint highlights the Akkineni family’s esteemed reputation in Indian cinema. Nagarjuna, a celebrated actor, has built a legacy that is respected by peers and fans alike. His son, Naga Chaitanya, is also a successful actor, continuing the family’s tradition of excellence in the Telugu film industry.
Samantha, Naga Chaitanya’s former spouse, is a well-respected actress with a considerable following, further elevating the family’s standing in the public eye.
Despite their marriage, which took place in 2017 and ended in divorce in 2021, both Naga Chaitanya and Samantha maintain a dignified public image and are respected for their professional achievements.
The Akkineni family’s contributions to Indian cinema have earned them admiration, making any attempt to tarnish their reputation particularly harmful.
The complaint underscores that the Akkineni family’s integrity and reputation have been meticulously cultivated over decades of hard work and dedication in the entertainment industry. Nagarjuna emphasizes that any false or malicious claims can severely impact not only his professional legacy but also the personal lives of those involved.
The legal action taken by Nagarjuna includes charges of criminal defamation, which carries significant legal consequences.
Additionally, the complaint seeks civil damages to compensate for the harm caused by Konda Surekha’s remarks regarding the divorce between Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Nagarjuna’s filing aims to protect his family’s honor and ensure accountability for the statements made by Surekha.
This case highlights the importance of safeguarding personal reputation and public image, especially for individuals in the spotlight. Nagarjuna’s commitment to defending his family’s legacy underscores the serious implications of public discourse surrounding personal matters.
