A complaint has been filed against Adipurush’s film producer, director Om Raut, and the film’s cast on Wednesday for infringing on people’s religious feelings by inappropriately depicting a character from Hindu mythology in the film’s new poster.
Sanjay Dinanath Tiwari, a Sanatan Dharma preacher, filed the case at Mumbai’s Sakinaka police station through Mumbai High Court Advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra.
According to the complaint, Sanjay claims that Adipurush was based on Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram’s biography from the sacred book Ramcharitmanas. He claimed that the new Adipurush poster depicts Lord Ram in a costume that contradicts the natural spirit and nature of Ramcharitmanas as described in Hindu scripture.
Furthermore, the complainant also claims that none of the characters in the Ramayana are wearing Janeu, which is very important in Hindu Sanatani Dharma. An FIR has been filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 295 (A), 298, 500, and 34.
On the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, a festival celebrated to commemorate Lord Ram’s birth anniversary, the makers of Adipurush revealed a new poster of the cast a few days ago. Actors Prabhas and Sunny are seen in the poster holding a bow and an arrow while dressed in armour and dhoti. Actress Kriti is dressed simply in a sari with her head covered, and Devdatta is seen bowing in service of the three.
The producers of Adipurush released the much-anticipated teaser last year. However, it became embroiled in controversy due to the portrayal of Hindu deities and the poor quality of the visual effects. Netizens slammed the filmmakers for allegedly Islamizing Lankesh over Saif’s appearance as the demon ruler, who was seen sporting a beard and buzz cut.
Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, and Sunny Singh star in the lead parts. It is set to be released on June 16, 2023.
