Air India Urination Case: No Relief to Shankar Mishra, Hearing On Bail Adjourned Till Jan 30

Delhi’s Court on Friday adjourned the hearing in the bail plea filed by bail Shankar Mishra. He was recently arrested for urinating on a fellow passenger in November of last year while under the influence of alcohol on an Air India flight.

Additional Sessions Judge Harjyot Singh Bhalla adjourned the case till Monday, January 30, after complainant’s advocate Ankur Mahindro said that he had not received a copy of the bail plea.

The court added that the investigating officer was not present for the hearing.

Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta, Mishra’s counsel, opposed to the adjournment.

Mishra was denied bail by Metropolitan Magistrate Komal Garg on January 11, and is now being held in judicial custody.

On January 6, the Delhi police arrested Mishra in Bengaluru for allegedly peeing on a 70-year-old woman while being drunk on an Air India flight in November last year.

After the woman’s letter to the chairman of the Tata Group was made public in the media, the incident came to light.

Mishra, who worked at Wells Fargo, was also let go from his job after the company said that allegations against him were “deeply disturbing”.

In a recent statement, Mishra’s lawyers stated that although he had given the woman the agreed-upon compensation amount on November 28, the woman’s daughter had given it back to him on December 19.

On January 8, the court refused to send Mishra to police custody, instead remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

The court then stated that the mere existence of public pressure should not influence the investigation and that Mishra’s police custody would not be required.
