Allahabad HC Directs Correction of Land Ownership Records for Banke Bihari Temple

The Allahabad High Court has recently directed the Chhata tehsil authorities in Mathura to rectify the revenue records, which erroneously designated a parcel of land as a graveyard, and instead, register it under the ownership of the Banke Bihari Ji Maharaj temple.

A single bench of Justice Saurabh Srivastava passed the order in response to a petition filed by the Shri Bihari Ji Sewa Trust, Mathura. The petition highlighted the incorrect alteration of ownership in revenue records pertaining to the temple land, a modification that occurred back in 2004.

Previously, the high court had directed revenue officials to furnish complete records regarding the change in ownership of the Banke Bihari Ji Maharaj temple land in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. However, the tehsil authorities were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the manner and basis upon which the records had been altered.

Upon a thorough examination of the records, the court invalidated the entries designating the land as a graveyard. Instead, it directed the Chhata tehsil authorities to officially register the land in the name of the trust within a timeframe of two months.
