The Central Government recently informed the Delhi High Court that it is amending the rules governing recruitment in the paramilitary forces and developing provisions to ensure that women are treated equally with men in non-General Duty (GD) courses.
Central Government Standing Counsel (CGSC) Rajesh Gogna informed the Court that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has designated Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) as the nodal force to frame common recruitment rules for non-GD courses, and the process is expected to be completed soon.
A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad was hearing a plea filed by Kush kalra seeking directions to allow recruitment of women as constable/driver and constable/ driver-cum-pump operator (driver for fire services) in Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at par with men.
Appearing for Kalra, Advocate Charu Wali Khanna contended that there is no reasonable justification for the CISF to deprive women employment at the posts of Constable/Driver for Fire Services when they are already being recruited at the said posts in the CISF itself for other duties.
According to the CGSC, a proposal to amend the rules for non-GD jobs for women has already been forwarded. He requested eight weeks to provide additional updates.
The bench took note of the statement and scheduled the matter for further consideration on August 29, 2023.
