Android Mobile Devices: Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Google’s Plea

The Supreme court on Wednesday agrees to hear tech giant Google’s plea challenging Competition Commission of India’s decision to impose Rs 1,338 crore penalty finding its practices relating to Android mobile devices unfair and anti-competitive.

A bench of CJI D Y Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha posted the Google’s appeal for hearing on January 16. Google seeks stay of an interim order of NCLAT, which asked it to deposit 10% of penalty amount by January 19 and refusing to stay CCI penalty.

Appearing for Google senior advocate A M Singhvi said that the penalty was levied without any evidence and through a tainted investigation. NCLAT posted the hearing of the Google’s appeal in April, which would make Google’s plea against CCI penalty infructuous, he added
