A Delhi court has adjourned the hearing of arguments on the sentencing of three individuals convicted in the killing of professional photographer Ankit Saxena in February 2018, amid an interfaith love affair.
Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Sharma, who had rendered the conviction verdict on December 23, adjourned the proceedings until January 31, 2024.
The convicted individuals include Akbar Ali and Shahnaj Begum, parents of Saxena’s girlfriend Shehzadi, and maternal uncle Mohammad Salim. The trio, who opposed the relationship, fatally stabbed 23-year-old Saxena multiple times in the Khyala area of the national capital.
Charges were filed against them under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). Additionally, Shahnaz Begum was convicted of the offence of voluntarily causing hurt.
On Monday, the court adjourned the matter for hearing on January 31, citing the non-filing of some affidavits.
