Ankit Saxena Murder: Delhi Court Reserves Order on Convicts Sentencing

Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Saturday reserved order on the sentence for three convicts in the Ankit Saxena murder case, following arguments from the Additional Public Prosecutor and defense counsel. The court is set to announce the sentence and compensation on March 7, 2024.

The case involves the parents and maternal uncle of a girl who had a relationship with Ankit, convicted for his murder in 2018. The Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Sunil Kumar Sharma has held Mohd. Salim, Akbar Ali, and his wife Shahnaz Begam guilty of murder, among other charges.

During the proceedings, the prosecution urged for maximum punishment, considering the gravity of the offense, while the defense sought leniency. The maximum punishment for murder is the death penalty.

The court considered evidence and witness testimonies before convicting the accused. An FIR was lodged at Khyala Police Station against the convicts following the incident.

Ankit Saxena’s murder stemmed from his relationship with a girl from a different religious background, which was not accepted by her family. He was fatally attacked in the Kyala area of West Delhi in February 2018.

The court, in its verdict, emphasized the importance of truth in the judicial process and the pursuit of justice. It also highlighted the sacred duty of courts to uphold truth, law, and justice, as exemplified by previous legal precedents.

The incident, as per the prosecution’s account, involved the three convicts and the minor brother of the girl. Ankit was attacked, leading to his death, with his parents present at the scene.

Following the incident, an FIR was lodged, and a charge sheet was filed by the Delhi police. Witness testimonies, including that of Ankit’s parents and a friend, were presented to substantiate the case.

The trial for the minor involved in the incident is pending before the juvenile justice board.
