The Central government today notified the appointment of 6 additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as permanent judges. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted the development.
The 6 additional judges who have been made permanent are Justice Vikas Bahl, Justice Vikas Suri, Justice Sandeep Moudgil, Justice Vinod Sharma (Bhardwaj), Justice Pankaj Jain; and Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi.
The Supreme Court Collegium passed a resolution recommending the same earlier this month.
Therefore, this was after the Collegium of the High Court recommended the names on December 19, 2022. The Chief Ministers and the Governors of State of Punjab & Haryana subsequently concurred.
Then, Supreme Court Collegium consulted with the judges of the apex court conversant with the affairs of the Punjab & Haryana High Court and also with the Law Ministry’s Department of Justice. The top court’s Collegium on April 18 deemed the names approved fit to be recommended for appointment as permanent judges.
