The Gangster turned politician & former Samajwadi Party leader Atiq Ahmed who was an accused in the Umesh Pal Murder case recently approached the Supreme Court challenging his transfer from Ahmedabad Jail to the Uttar Pradesh Jail.
Atiq Ahmed is currently lodged in the Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad among the most sensational murders where Atiq Ahmed is allegedly involved with Raju Pal (MLA from Bahujan Samaj Party) who was shot in 2005.
Umesh Pal was gunned down outside his residence on February 24 in Prayagraj. Atiq is the key accused who is said to hatch the conspiracy for Umesh Pal Murder. It was at his behest that his brother Ashraf chalked out the plan of murder in the UP’s Bareily jail.
Further, the Petition that was filed before the Supreme Court stated that he was apprehensive that he would be taken to the Uttar Pradesh Police to probe his role on a transit remand in the Umesh Pal murder case and would be killed in an encounter.
Atiq Ahmed stated that he had this apprehension after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and several UP ministers made statements regarding eliminating the ‘Mafia Rule’ from the state.
After Umesh Pal’s murder, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party of patronising mafia (criminals) and said ‘unko mitti mein mila denge.’
After the Uttar Pradesh Police killed Arbaz, one of the accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, in an encounter, BJP minister JPS Rathore said the government started the process to eliminate criminals and even warned criminals that they should not make a hue and cry if they get caught as they might meet the same fate as notorious gangster Vikas Dubey.
Atiq Ahmed stated that even if he is brought to UP, he should be given security by the Central forces.
A day ago, Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf (currently lodged in UP’s Bareily jail) also moved a court against being moved out of the prison premises for a court hearing or for jail transfer as he feared that he might be killed on the way. Ashraf has also sought security on the jail premises too.
Meanwhile, The Prayagraj Development Authority on Wednesday bulldozed a house worth ₹2.5 crore belonging to an aide of Atiq Ahmed.
