Attack on BJP Office: Chennai Police Seeks Cancellation of Bail Granted to Accused Vinoth

The Chennai police on Tuesday approached a sessions court to cancel the bail granted to Karukka Vinoth. He had been arrested for allegedly throwing a petrol bomb outside the Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan recently, and the police sought to cancel his bail in a similar case related to the state BJP headquarters.

Principal Sessions Judge S Alli presided over the hearing of the petition filed by R Palani, Inspector of Police at Mambalam police station. The judge ordered notice to be served to Vinoth and scheduled further proceedings for November 15.

In his petition filed through City Public Prosecutor G Devarajan, Palani contended that the accused had, in February of the previous year, hurled a petrol bomb at the BJP office in an attempt to set it on fire and had caused damage to the building’s wall. Subsequently, he was granted conditional bail on July 19, 2023, by the Principal Sessions Judge. One of the conditions of his bail was to appear before the trial court on all working days until further notice. However, the accused failed to comply with this condition.

Palani also pointed out that following his release on bail, on October 25, Vinoth had thrown a petrol bomb in front of the main entrance to the Raj Bhavan. Consequently, he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on the same day. The actions of the accused were deemed highly dangerous to society and the general public.

Vinoth’s actions had led to disruptions in law and order and had created numerous tense situations in the city. Therefore, it was requested that the bail granted to the accused be revoked.
