Guwahati Court
In a significant development, the special MP-MLA court in Bijnor on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Paras from Nagina.
The decision comes in connection with a 2020 attempt-to-murder case in which Mr. Paras, a former minister and current legislator, is named as an accused.
According to Additional District Government Counsel Jitendra Chauhan, the case revolves around an attack that took place on September 29, 2020. The complainant, villager Chhatar Singh of Raseedpur Garhi, alleged that he was assaulted with knives while traveling on Jhalu road. The attack resulted in serious injuries, prompting him to file a formal complaint against Mr. Paras and other leaders from the Samajwadi Party.
The complaint specifically mentioned that Mr. Paras, along with several party colleagues, was involved in orchestrating the attack. Following the registration of the case, the court issued non-bailable warrants against Mr. Paras, escalating the gravity of the situation. Legal authorities continued their investigation, and the case remained pending in court.
Mr. Paras appeared before Judge Shantanu Tyagi in the special MP-MLA court. After reviewing the case files and hearing arguments from both sides, the judge rejected the bail plea submitted by the MLA. Mr. Paras was subsequently remanded to judicial custody and sent to jail.
This development is being closely watched by both political observers and legal experts, as it involves a high-profile legislator from a prominent party. The rejection of bail reflects the court’s assessment of the seriousness of the allegations and the need to ensure that the investigation proceeds without interference.
