Attempt to Murder: Gurugram Court Extends Monu Manesar’s Judicial Custody by 14 Days

A Gurugram Court has extended the judicial custody of cow vigilante and Bajrang Dal activist Monu Manesar by 14 days in connection with an attempted murder case.

This extension prolongs Monu Manesar’s stay in jail. He is also an accused in the Nuh violence and an abduction-murder case in Rajasthan. He had been granted bail in the Nuh violence case on October 16.

The court of Pataudi Chief Judicial Magistrate Tarannum Khan has directed Mohit Yadav, also known as Monu Manesar, to undergo another 14 days of judicial custody. For security reasons, the hearing for Manesar was conducted via video conferencing from the Bhondsi jail.

Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, the counsel for Manesar, stated, “In the case of attempted murder, registered at Pataudi police station, the hearing was held in Pataudi court today, and the court extended his judicial custody for the next 14 days. The next hearing will be on November 8.” Bhardwaj further noted that the next hearing will also be held via video conferencing.

The attempted murder case is linked to a confrontation between two groups in Pataudi’s Baba Shah Mohalla on February 6 when Manesar was present with his group. A complaint was filed by Mubin Khan, a resident of the same locality, who alleged that his son was shot during the confrontation. Subsequently, a murder case was registered against Manesar at Pataudi police station on February 7.

Manesar had also been arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of Nasir and Junaid, whose charred bodies were discovered in a vehicle on the Rajasthan-Haryana border on February 16. They were allegedly abducted by vigilantes who accused them of cow smuggling.

Manesar was initially arrested in Gurugram’s Manesar on September 12 in the Nuh violence case. Subsequently, he was handed over to Rajasthan Police after obtaining a transit remand for him from a court in Nuh last month. He was later brought back to Gurugram from Rajasthan and presented before a court in Pataudi, which ordered his judicial custody in Bhondsi jail.

A religious procession led by the Vishva Hindu Parishad was attacked by a mob in Nuh on July 31. Six individuals lost their lives in the incident and the subsequent communal violence. A cleric was killed in an attack on a mosque in adjacent Gurugram.
