A court in Thane (Maharashtra) district has sentenced a 39-year-old cable operator to five years in jail after finding him guilty of seriously injuring a man seven years ago.
Additional Sessions Judge (Bhiwandi) P M Gupta also fined the convict, Irfan Shaijad Khan, alias Irfan Bala, Rs 5,000. Additional Public Prosecutor Vijay Mundhe informed the court that Irfan, a cable operator, seriously injured Yusuf Khan by attacking him with a knife in April 2017. Irfan was subsequently charged with attempted murder.
The court determined that the prosecution had established all the charges against Irfan.
“Thus, while imposing the sentence, I have taken into account the seriousness of the offense, the circumstances surrounding the commission of the offense, the age, character, and criminal background of the accused,” the judge stated in the order. Mundhe noted that this is the inaugural conviction by the Bhiwandi sessions court, which commenced operations a few months ago.
