Baba Siddique Murder Case: Mumbai Court Allows Intervention Application

In a significant development in the murder trial of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, the Special MCOCA Court has allowed his wife, Shezeen Siddique, to intervene and actively participate in the legal proceedings.

The application was filed through advocates Pradip Gharat, Trivankumar Karnani, and Hritika Jannawar. With the court’s nod, Shezeen Siddique is now officially part of the ongoing case and will assist the prosecution, marking a crucial shift in the trial’s course.

Family Seeks Wider Probe

Zeeshan Siddique, Baba Siddique’s son and a sitting MLA, has earlier provided a statement to the police urging them to investigate the possible links between his father’s murder and slum redevelopment (SRA) projects in Bandra.

His statement, which is part of the police chargesheet filed earlier this month, claims that the SRA angle has been overlooked during the investigation. Zeeshan emphasized that his father’s death must be probed not only from a criminal perspective but also in connection with contentious redevelopment projects in the area.

Zeeshan also highlighted a political dimension, noting that Baba Siddique was expected to take oath as a member of the legislative council on October 15, 2024 — just two days after he was assassinated.

Murder Investigation & Arrests

Baba Siddique was gunned down on October 12, 2024, near his son’s office in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar. Three assailants were involved in the shooting. Since the incident, police have arrested Salman Vohra and Akashdeep Singh, with Vohra accused of financing the killing.

According to a senior Mumbai Crime Branch official, investigations have revealed that the Bishnoi gang was behind the murder, and their list of targets reportedly extended beyond Siddique. A prominent Pune-based political leader was allegedly also under the gang’s radar following the incident.

Next Steps In Trial

Now that Shezeen Siddique has been allowed to intervene, the prosecution is expected to gain deeper insight from the victim’s family as the trial progresses. Her participation is likely to keep a strong focus on the redevelopment angle, which the family believes is central to understanding the motive behind the killing.
