Bandra Court Extends Custody Of Saif Ali Khan’s Attacker Until January 29

The Bandra Magistrate Court on Friday extended the police custody of Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence, until January 29.

The court stated that further investigation is essential to uncover additional aspects of the case, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense, which is triable by a sessions court.

Progress in the Investigation

The Mumbai Police argued for extended custody, citing the accused’s lack of cooperation regarding the source of the weapon used in the crime. Officials are also investigating the possible involvement of accomplices. “We are still to recover the shoes worn by the accused during the crime,” the police added.

Key evidence recovered so far includes a gamchha allegedly used by the accused. Additionally, the police plan to match the accused’s facial recognition with CCTV footage and record statements from witnesses, including Khukmoni Jahangir Sheikh of Kolkata, whose Aadhaar card was misused by the accused to purchase a SIM card.

Actor and Family Statements Recorded

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan Choudhary confirmed that Saif Ali Khan’s statement was recorded at his residence, ‘Satguru Sharan,’ on Thursday. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s statement had also been taken earlier in connection with the incident.

Details of the Incident

The attack occurred last week when Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, entered Khan’s Bandra residence with the intent to commit theft. After a violent confrontation, Khan sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body. He was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital for surgery and was discharged on Tuesday following his recovery.

Evidence and Investigation Progress

Mumbai Police found the accused’s fingerprints at multiple locations in Khan’s home, including the stairs, a toilet door, and the handle of his son Jeh’s room. These prints, along with other forensic evidence, are expected to play a critical role in the investigation.

According to police reports, Shehzad had attempted to enter three other houses in the area before breaking into Khan’s residence. The authorities continue to pursue leads, suspecting a broader network behind the crime.

With further evidence yet to be gathered, the investigation remains ongoing as the police seek to uncover the full scope of the incident.
