A court in Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh) has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his elder brother over a land dispute about a year ago.
District and Sessions Judge Saket Bihari Deepak found Surendra Yadav guilty in the murder case and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him, according to District government advocate Dinesh Kumar Pandey.
The court decreed that half of the fine amount be awarded to Rajkumari, the deceased’s wife.
Providing insight into the murder case, Bhadohi Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyayan disclosed that the incident occurred on the night of March 10, 2023, in Pakri Kalan Wari village under the Surayava police station limits. Rajnath Yadav, the victim, was standing at the door of his house after dinner when his younger brother, Surendra, slit his throat using a ‘gandasa’ (sharp-edged weapon), resulting in Rajnath’s immediate demise.
As per SP Meenakshi, Surendra’s motive for killing his brother was a land dispute.
Following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s daughter-in-law on the second day of the incident, the police registered a case against Surendra under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, initiating an investigation, she further added.
