Bhadohi district court in Uttar Pradesh has sentenced a 72-year-old man to life imprisonment for the murder of a Dalit laborer.
Additional Session Judge Asad Ahmad Hashmi convicted Devicharan Vishwakarma of murdering Ajeet Kumar (32).
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 52,000 on him.
Special Public Prosecutor (SC-ST) Anil Kumar Shukla stated that the incident occurred on July 18, 2022. At the time, construction work was underway on Akash Mishra’s house, and both Vishwakarma and Kumar were employed as laborers. While Kumar was serving tea to other laborers, Vishwakarma made casteist remarks and refused to accept tea.
When Kumar protested against the caste-based insults, Vishwakarma grabbed an adze and launched an attack on Kumar, resulting in his immediate demise, as stated by Shukla.
