BJP’s Prashant Umrao Moves SC To Consolidate FIRs Against Him In Connection With Tweets Over Bihari Migrants Workers

Uttar Pradesh BJP Spokesperson and lawyer Prashant Patel Umrao on Wednesday moved before the Supreme Court to consolidate the FIRs filed against him in various police stations for allegedly spreading false information about attacks on Bihari migrant workers in Tamil Nadu.

Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra brought the case before Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud for an early hearing.

The CJI agreed and ordered that the case to be listed tomorrow.

Umrao allegedly tweeted that Bihar’s fifteen people had been “hanged in a room in Tamil Nadu for speaking Hindi,” with 12 of them had “sadly died.”

“After that, Tejaswi Yadav shamelessly celebrated Stalin’s birthday in Tamil Nadu,” the tweet claimed.

The state police booked Umrao for the tweet and FIRs were filed in various police stations across Tamil Nadu under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (hate speech), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief).

Umrao subsequently moved before the Madras High Court and secured anticipatory bail in the case.
