Dhaula Kuan BMW accident case
A Delhi court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of Gaganpreet Kaur by 14 days in connection with the Dhaula Kuan BMW accident case.
She will now remain in custody until October 11, when she is scheduled to be produced before the court again.
The case pertains to the accident in which Navjot Singh, a deputy secretary in the Ministry of Finance, lost his life after being hit by a BMW allegedly driven by Kaur.
Judicial Magistrate First Class Ankit Garg extended Kaur’s custody after she was produced before the Patiala House Court on expiry of her previous remand.
The court has also reserved its order on her bail plea, which is expected to be pronounced later in the day at 3:30 PM.
Kaur was first remanded to two days’ judicial custody on September 15 by the Duty Magistrate. On September 17, her custody was further extended for 10 days. The present order adds another 14 days.
The judge has also directed jail authorities to ensure that Kaur receives proper medical care during her detention.
Advocate Atul Kumar, appearing for the complainant, told the media that CCTV footage of the incident was played in court, contradicting the defence claim that the motorcycle hit the BMW.
“It is the car that hit the bike. We showed how negligent and fast the car was. The BMW X5 had turtled and struck the motorcycle. The factual position is that the motorcycle was coming from behind. The BMW slowed down while turning, and as the bike came parallel, the car hit it,” Kumar said.
He further alleged that Kaur attempted to manipulate the aftermath of the accident:
“The statement of one of the eyewitnesses showed that help was offered, but the lady refused ambulance services. She deliberately took the injured to her own nursing home, depriving him of immediate medical assistance, to save herself from legal consequences.”
Charges Against The Accused
The Delhi Police have invoked provisions related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, along with other charges, against Kaur.
