BMW Accident Case: Delhi Court Issues Notice To Preserve CCTV Footage

A Patiala House Court on Wednesday issued notice on an application seeking the preservation of CCTV footage linked to the Dhaula Kuan BMW accident that left one person dead on September 14.

The application was filed by the counsel of accused Gaganpreet Kaur, requesting that CCTV evidence from the accident spot be secured. The court has scheduled the hearing on this plea for Thursday.

Bail Plea Underway

Alongside the CCTV plea, the bail application of Gaganpreet Kaur is also under consideration. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta is representing her in the proceedings.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police recently questioned Gaganpreet’s husband, Parikshit Kakkar, after he appeared at the police station to join the investigation.

Parikshit told investigators that he could not figure out how the accident occurred. According to his statement, Gaganpreet said she was taking the injured victims to the hospital. He also claimed he informed his father-in-law about their condition and then left in another taxi for the hospital.

Quoting him, police said: “My wife told me she was taking them along. I informed my father-in-law that they needed treatment and that they were on the way. After that, I left in another taxi.”

The police are now verifying his version of events with other evidence and testimonies.

Details Of The Accident

Gaganpreet Kaur, the accused driver, was arrested for allegedly hitting a motorcycle carrying Navjot Singh, a senior official with the Finance Ministry, and his wife Sandeep Kaur. Navjot Singh died in the crash, while Sandeep suffered serious injuries.

The incident occurred on Sunday near Delhi Cantonment metro station, when Gaganpreet’s BMW collided with the couple’s bike.

Accused’s Defence

According to Gaganpreet, she panicked after the crash and drove the victims to GTB Nagar Hospital, around 20 km away, instead of a nearby hospital. She reportedly told police that her children had been admitted at GTB during the Covid-19 period, which is why she drove there instinctively.

She faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and evidence tampering under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita.

Family Questions Delay

Navjot Singh’s family has raised concerns over why the victims were not taken to a closer hospital such as RR Hospital or RML Hospital, both of which were near the accident site.

With CCTV preservation and bail applications now before the court, the investigation into the tragic case continues.
