BMW Hit-&-Run Case: Mumbai Court Sends Mihir Shah To Police Custody Till July 16

A Mumbai court has remanded Mihir Shah, the primary accused in the Worli hit-and-run case, to police custody until July 16. Shah was apprehended in Virar on Tuesday and brought before the Sewri court in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Shah had been on the run since July 7, when the car he was allegedly driving struck a scooter on Dr. Annie Besant Road in Worli. Mumbai police formed fourteen teams to capture him. In connection with the case, police also arrested Rajrishi Singh Bidawat and Mihir’s father, Rajesh Shah.

The husband of the deceased woman, Pradeep Nakhwa, criticized the delay in arresting Shah, accusing the authorities of dragging their feet due to political influences. Nakhwa alleged that his wife was dragged from Ceejay House to Sea Link Road by the car.

Nakhwa recounted the incident in an interview with ANI, stating, “We were returning from the fish hatchery on Peddar Road around 4 am, traveling at 35-40 km/hr. Suddenly, a speeding car hit us, and we were thrown into the air, landing on the car’s bonnet. When the driver braked, I fell on the side of the road while my wife was caught under the wheels. He continued driving, dragging her from Ceejay House to Sea Link Road. There was smoke from the wheels as he dragged her. He then fled the scene.”

The victim, a 45-year-old resident of Worli Koliwada, was on the scooter with her husband when the incident occurred. Both sustained injuries, and the woman died during treatment.

Police revealed that the luxury car involved in the incident belongs to a political leader from Maharashtra’s Palghar district.

This tragic incident follows a similar case in Pune less than two months ago, where a luxury car driven by an allegedly intoxicated 17-year-old caused the deaths of two software engineers.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed concern over the increasing number of hit-and-run incidents in the state. He has directed the police to take strict action, stating that the “guilty will not be spared.” In light of the incident, the Shiv Sena has expelled Rajesh Shah, the father of Mihir Shah, from the party.
