A Mumbai court has extended the police custody of Rajrishi Bidawat, driver of Rajesh Shah, until July 11 in connection with a fatal BMW hit-and-run case. Bidawat was in the car during the crash that killed Kaveri Nakhwa and injured her husband, Pradip Nakhwa.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning in Worli, central Mumbai, when Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, allegedly lost control of his BMW, hitting Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and her husband on Annie Besant Road around 5:30 am. After the accident, Mihir Shah fled towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, leaving Bidawat behind.

Bidawat was presented before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SP Bhosale at the Sewree court on Tuesday, where the police requested an extension of custody citing the severity of the offense and Bidawat’s knowledge of the accident’s circumstances.

Both Mihir Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Rajesh Shah, a prominent Shiv Sena politician, is also implicated in the case and is currently out on bail.

The court’s decision to extend Bidawat’s custody reflects ongoing efforts to unravel more details about the incident. The case has garnered attention due to Rajesh Shah’s involvement, adding a layer of complexity to the legal proceedings.
