The Central government on Saturday approved the appointment of additional judge Justice Robin Phukan as permanent judge of Gauhati High Court.
The Union Law Minister notified the appointment on Twitter.
“Shri Justice Robin Phukan, Additional Judge of Gauhati HC has been appointed as Judge of that HC. I extend my best wishes to him“, the tweet reads.
On May 3, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended that Justice Phukan be appointed as a permanent judge.
According to the Collegium resolution, the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and two other senior most judges recommended on March 23 that Justice Phukan be made permanent.
The Supreme Court Collegium received the file from the Department of Justice with its inputs in April, and the Chief Ministers of Assam, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as the Governors of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh, agreed with the recommendation.
Currently, the Gauhati High Court is functioning with 24 judges against a sanctioned strength of 30 with a vacancy of 6.
